The September 12, 2005 Kirkland Rotary meeting was called to order by President Joanne Primavera promptly at  6:30 PM.  David Aubrey led the Pledge of Allegiance.  Joanne let us know she'd talked with a church representative in Slidell, LA.  He we astonished and grateful for the outpouring of assistance from the KRC.  Joanne thanked all of those who participated in the Kirkland Triathlon.  Patti Smith indicated that the event was safe and successful with no accidents and added her thanks for the dozen or so Rotarians who participated.  We celebrated Sept. birthdays with champagne and singing.  This was a fresh event for many of us and much appreciated. In the course of the activity, Joanne celebrated the benefits of senior status.

Announcements:

  • Gayle Cudworth provided a short overview of the BEST High School Business Week activity during which they put some of the proceeds of the Duck Dash to work.  Gayle was impressed by the transformation of students during the activity and praised the participation of Rotarians including Steve Brown and Mike Hunter.  Both commented on the impressive nature of student work and on the obvious enthusiasm students brought to simulated commercial activities designed to familiarize them with the promises and practices of business.
  • Elizabeth announced that a party will be held at David Aubrey's this Sunday at 2:00 to celebrate Vlad's arrival in Kirkland.
  • Mike Hunter updated the club regarding the Rotary Scholarship application and judging process for the year.  He asked for volunteers to interact with the LWHS counseling department and for judging in the spring.
  • Joanne reported on last week's Board meeting and pointed out, once again, that the Board had approved a donation of $20K to the Slidell, LA relief work.
  • Joanne also announced the formation of a committee to student the possibility of starting another Kirkland Rotary club. She asked for interested folks to let her know their interest.
  • Dwight conducted a presentation recognizing our most recent Paul Harris Fellows including Brad, Pat, Bob and Sinclair.  Dwight held forth at length regarding the character, dedication and value to the community of each.
  • Joanne invited everyone, particularly Rotarian women, to the Columbian Tower Rotary Club Luncheon being held to benefit Washington Women  in Need.  I missed the date.  Sorry!
  • Chuck Morgan invited everyone to the annual KPC auction to be held at the Redmond Marriott on Sept. 30 from 4:00 to 9:00 PM.
  • Ev Cox reported that he'd attended a gathering of past presidents.
  • G.G. reiterated Chuck's invitation to the KPC auction and emphasized that Rotarian Women would be welcomed enthusiastically.

John Woodbury introduced John Rothman Ph.D. who works as a clinical psychologist in Bellevue.  Dr. Rothman specializes in neuro-feedback (NF) therapy.  He presented a brief description of the course of treatment and benefits associated with NF when used to treat a variety of brain activity problems including depression, ADD, anxiety and autism.  He discussed the nature and course of treatment and commented on the combinative effects of medication and NF.  He also distributed materials associated with the therapy and answered a substantial number of questions posed by club members.

 

Vlad won the drawing and the money but foul play was suspected. 

Joanne adjourned the meeting at about 7:40.
