Operation Warm|Coats for Kids

Operation Warm is a nonprofit organization that understands the value of children staying warm as well as the potential stigma associated with poor quality apparel.  As a result they seek to deliver to disadvantaged children brand new winter coats at a nominal charge.  This event takes place in October.

How Operation Warm Works

Since 1998, Operation Warm has gifted nearly 3 million brand new coats to children in need. With millions of children living without the daily essentials that most of us rely upon, Operation Warm is providing the one item most requested by schools and social service agencies.

  • First, a donor (corporation, group, or individual) decides to sponsor a group of disadvantaged children to receive brand new winter coats. The cost to sponsor a child with a new coat is about $20.00, which includes shipping and handling.
  • Next, a beneficiary group (social service agency, school, or church) is chosen to receive the coats. The donor may select a group or request that Operation Warm designates a group.
  • Next, a coat order is placed online, through the coordination of the beneficiary group. Operation Warm offers boys and girls coats ranging from infant size 12 months to youth size 14/16. (Alternatively, the club project chair purchases coats directly from a local retailer.)
  • Next, the full amount of your contribution shall be sent to Operation Warm before orders are shipped.
  • Coats can be shipped directly to the beneficiary group or your group may choose to receive the coats and personally deliver them to the children.
  • Coat distributions occur throughout the fall. As a donor, you may choose to hold a special event to distribute the coats.
The Rotary Club of Kirkland participates in this project in partnership with John Muir Elementary Elementary School.  The project contact will notify all members of the coat hand out date and how volunteers may help.  If you would like to volunteer in advance please send email to the project contact by clicking on the link below.
