In appreciation for the Rotary Club of Kirkland's generous and longstanding support to reduce hunger in our community, the club is recognized as a member of the newly created Harvest Against Hunger Lifetime Giving Society. Lifetime Giving Society members have each contributed a total of at least $10,000. They are individuals and organizations that have played a pivotal role in sustaining the Harvest Against Hunger mission and enabled the agency to continue innovating to find new ways to increase access to nutritious produce by people in need. Society members are passionate about building healthier communities and more equitable food systems. The Rotary Club of Kirkland has contributed a total of $18,725. Harvest Against Hunger leadership says the club's commitment to making a difference for many who struggle to put enough food on the table has been a source of inspiration.
John Pruitt and David Aubry, president and secretary of the Kirkland Rotary Foundation, present a check for $12,420 to Isabelle Kalisa, director of community partnerships of HERO House NW as a part of the grant program funded largely by the foundation's gala and auction last fall. Mr. Aubry announced that the foundation had raised over $13,000 at the event, and the foundation board added $10,000 to the total, providing three grant recipients over $23,000 this year. Foundation president John Pruitt explained that club members, who are also foundation members, voted to determine which three worthy organizations would receive grants this year, and in proportion to the votes received at the annual event. Rotarians and non-Rotarians alike may contribute to the Kirkland Rotary Foundation's community service work through the Rotary club's Donation page on this website.
Again this year, members and spouses of members of the Rotary Club of Kirkland volunteered time at Hopelink in Kirkland, this year on the morning of February 29. The Rotary team sorted donated food into categories so the food can be made available to Hopelink's customers. This activity is illustrative of how Rotary builds and sustains communities and provides assistance to folks who need a bit of support from their community.
The Rotary Club of Kirkland and the Lake Washington School District have established a partnership with Music4Life to provide donated-and-repaired musical instruments at no charge for use by local public school students who qualify for federal free and reduced-price meals.  For the past sixteen years, Music4Life has been ensuring that family income is not a barrier to music education by assuring that every student who wants to pursue instrumental music can do so.
Rotary Club of Kirkland members gather to collect food for annual Thanksgiving Baskets to support families confronting food insecurity at John Muir Elementary School.  John Muir staff identifies families whose circumstances make them eligible for holiday gift donations, and the club collects funds and food to ease the stress of the Thanksgiving holiday.  Anyone can support this community service effort by going to the DONATE page on this website.  On the donation page, where it says “Please Select Your Donation Designation”, choose the “Holiday Gift” option from the drop-down menu and include a note it's for Thanksgiving!
